The SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) are an international set of goals adopted unanimously by member states at the UN Summit in September 2015. They were created with the goal of achieving a sustainable and better world by 2030. These 17 goals and 169 targets pledge to "Leave no one behind."

Hotel Granvia Osaka endorses the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals and, as a company committed to serving the local community, is actively participating in addressing local and social issues through its SDGs initiatives.

As part of our energy conservation efforts, we use LEDs for lighting throughout the building. LEDs are long-lasting and energy-efficient*, resulting in lower CO2 emissions. Furthermore, they do not contain lead or mercury commonly found in fluorescent lamps, making them environmentally friendly.
*LED light bulbs are said to be approximately 85% more energy-efficient than conventional light bulbs.

By subdividing the air conditioning system's operating schedule and adjusting the temperature according to seasonal changes, we are reducing electricity consumption and controlling carbon dioxide emissions.

In-room amenities (shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and hand soap) are provided in refillable dispenser bottles. By minimizing the use of individually packaged items, we are working to reduce plastic waste.

Food waste generated within the hotel is processed at a recycling plant and used as animal feed. This is just one of our initiatives to reduce food loss. Waste oil generated within the hotel is also processed at a recycling plant and used as biodiesel fuel.

We have switched from PET bottles to paper cartons for drinking water within the hotel. This change is expected to reduce plastic waste and cut CO2 emissions by approximately 117 tons annually.

We sort and collect used plastic bottle caps, sell them to recycling companies, and donate the proceeds to organizations that donate polio vaccines.
This contributes to the efficient use of resources and provides support to developing countries.

We are implementing human rights training and working to create an environment that is considerate of everyone regardless of nationality, disability, or gender.
The JR West Group has established a human rights awareness promotion system with the aim of fostering a spirit of respect for human rights by deepening each employee's understanding and awareness of various human rights issues.

In our banquet halls, we propose the "3010 Movement" to reduce food waste. This initiative encourages guests to return to their seats and finish their meals for 30 minutes after the toast and for 10 minutes before the end of the event. To reduce food loss even more, in our Tea Lounge, we are utilizing "TABETE," a food-sharing service that allows guests to "rescue" (purchase) cakes that do not sell out. (*Use of this service requires downloading the "TABETE" app.)

Aiming to create a hotel that is friendly to everyone and the environment, we are working to reduce plastic waste. We encourage the reuse of amenities in guest rooms, and cutlery such as forks and spoons provided with takeout purchases is only offered to guests who request them.

Currently, a significant amount of CO2 is emitted during hotel stays due to laundry, electricity usage, and amenity replacement. As such, for stays of two or more nights, we have made it standard practice not to change linen and are working to reduce the amount of detergent and heavy oil used for laundry. (*Linen will be changed upon request.) We also encourage guests to take advantage of our "Zero CO2 Stay" plan, which can offset (compensate for) the CO2 emissions.

As a company committed to coexisting with the local community, we are deepening our understanding of the SDGs and striving to create hotels that are friendly to everyone and the environment. Furthermore, to achieve the JR West Group's vision of a "safe and prosperous society where people meet and smiles are born," we hope to contribute to achieving the SDGs by realizing a West Japan area where everyone—including future generations—can continue to thrive.
