Originating from Yamashina-dera Temple, built on the grounds of Fujiwara no Kamatari's private residence, the temple boasts impressive buildings that evoke Tenpyo culture.
There are many sights to see on the grounds, so we recommend visiting them in order from one end to the other to avoid missing anything.

Sarusawa Pond is located just across Sanjo Street from the Nan'endo Hall of Kofuku-ji Temple. The south side of the pond is a scenic spot where the water's surface, willow trees, and five-story pagoda come together in a beautiful scene.

Image photo: Todai-ji Temple

Todaiji Temple, a world-renowned cultural heritage site, houses the famous "Vairocana Buddha," also known as the Great Buddha of Nara. While there are various routes to the temple grounds, the recommended route is to pass through the South Gate and proceed to the Todaiji Museum and the Great Buddha Hall. The Nigatsudo Hall, situated on a hill and offering excellent views, is best visited in the evening or at night.

Visiting hours: 24 hours (free)
Access: Approximately 15 minutes by taxi and on foot from the hotel.

Nigatsudo Temple is known for the Shuni-e Buddhist ceremony, which has continued without interruption for over 1260 years.
From March 1st to 14th, large torches are lit to illuminate the path for the monks performing the ritual.

As night deepened, we went for a stroll around Nigatsudo Temple.
Walking along the corridor illuminated by paper lanterns, the night view stretching all the way to Mount Ikoma in the distance is truly exceptional.
